Sonata by William Marsey

19 mins, solo piano

Chipped away at for around 6 years, this work started during covid as a number of epigrammatic, single-minded pieces: thoughts trapped between the walls of my flat. Revised and expanded over the years the music has become freer and more generous, resulting in a larger, meandering piece: wiser and more searching.

An early version of this music was written for George Xiaoyuan Fu, and commissioned bythe Royal Academy of Music as part of their 200th anniversary commissions project.
